Barry J. Nevins was born in Brooklyn and raised in Baldwin Harbor, on Long Island. He attended the University of Miami, Miami-Dade Community College, and Iona College where he earned an LPN (Licensed Practical Nursing) certificate. Barry’s first published work, “In Transit” will be in the forthcoming anthology, “Desire In Transition,” Natalie Patrice Tucker, Ed. and is also featured in Perspectives. Barry served on the Editorial Board of the monthly magazine “Advance for LPN’s” for two years. Barry’s first nursing job was as a foster care nurse with the Association to Benefit Children, Cody Gifford Variety House, where he was responsible for the monthly medical evaluations of 65 foster care children. While working at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in various administrative positions over the past 20 years, Barry also worked part-time as a staff nurse at Callen-Lorde Community Health Center (the Gay and Lesbian Community Health Center), where he met his husband Hernando Davila who was on the Board of Directors. They have been together for over 13 years and were married in 2011 in NYC. In 2004, Barry and Hernando started G-FLAG, Galaxy Friends of Lesbians and Gays, a GLBT social club at the Galaxy Towers in Guttenberg, N.J.
