Erwin Maas is a New York based theater & opera director and teacher from the Netherlands. He has worked extensively in Australia, Europe, and USA. His love for storytelling started at an early age when he, as a young child, wrote up short stories and then acted them out with his sister and cousin. After a MA in Drama Teaching, Acting & Directing from the Academy for Dramatic Arts in the Netherlands, he went on to obtain a MFA in Theater Directing from Columbia University’s School of the Arts in NYC and a Masters Certificate in Documentary Filmmaking / Media Arts & Production from University of Technology in Sydney, Australia. Maas was a guest speaker, lecturer, instructor and director at many academies and universities including Yale School of Drama, NYU Drama Department, Columbia University School of the Arts, Carnegie Mellon University, Brooklyn College and at academies in Berlin, Barcelona, Sydney, and Amsterdam. He has received numerous awards including the Fulbright Fellowship, Netherland-America Foundation, VandenEnde Foundation, Shubert Fellowship, and the Royal Prince Bernhard Cultural Award. In 2010, Maas was approached by the Royal Netherlands Embassy in Washington, DC and Consulate in New York to become part of their Cultural Department. Besides his work as a director and teacher, he now holds the part-time position of Director of Performing Arts. He is also a proud partner of Well-Lived Enterprises.
